Sunday’s X-Files panel at New York Comic-Con featured a trailer for season 11 of the series, which is set to debut next year on Fox. It’s pretty much everything an X-Files fan could hope for — an appearance by Assistant Director Skinner (who will get his own episode revealing some backstory), the Cigarette Smoking Man, a Lone Gunmen (Dean Haglund’s Richard Langly), aliens, “hell on Earth” talk, and a storyline about Mulder and Scully’s missing son William.

The new 10-episode installment will be executive-produced by creator Chris Carter, who said that Scully and Mulder are going to get “kissin’ close” in the new season, but will remain professional and not romantic partners. Anderson told NYCC audiences that she will not be returning to The X-Files after season 11. “No, no, I think this will be it for me,” she said. When asked why she returning at all, she replied: “It felt like it wasn’t over, didn’t feel we necessarily delivered everything the fans were expecting of us last time.” And regarding the show’s fate following her departure, Carter told Deadline: “I certainly think the show has much more life in it. So, I can’t answer that question definitively but I can tell you that there are more stories to tell.”
