There are few ATMs in the music business like the holiday album. Make a good one – or hell, a passable one – and if you’re popular enough, it’s a perennial seller. And it’s not just old favorites like Elvis, Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, and Johnny Mathis; everyone from New Kids on the Block to Boyz II Men to Josh Groben to (especially) Mariah Carey has made one. And now, Sia has too.
Her sweepstakes entry, Everything is Christmas, includes ten new holiday songs, which the singer co-wrote with her longtime producer and collaborator Greg Kurstin (who, as Rolling Stone notes, is Jewish – hey, if Bob Dylan can do it…). And now, she’s released the album’s first single, “Santa’s Coming For Us,” a spirited charmer about “Singing to the deer in the skies” and “Singing every jingle, jingle, jingle tonight.” Give it a listen:
Everything is Christmas is out November 17 in record stores and at digital outlets – but look, if you order it from her website, you can get it bundled with an ornament and/or wrapping paper and/or a Santa hat, or buy stand-alone scarves, gloves, and tree toppers. Because if you’re gonna cash in, you may as well cash in.
