Pic of the Day: Magazine Covers, Re-imagined and Redrawn

Covers is an ongoing project by John Paul Thurlow, who has set out to recreate all of the covers of his prodigious magazine collection in pencil. Of course, he’s not redrawing them exactly, but rather taking “a mass produced product and turning it into a fucked-up one-off.” This, as it turns out, means doodling, refiguring, and re-imagining what was a streamlined piece of art into a raw, scribbly, but undeniably technically stellar piece.

Yeah, yeah, yeah — our generation is all hipsters who don’t have any culture of our own, so we have to appropriate other people’s stuff and change it to suit our purposes. We know. But that doesn’t make this any less cool. Check out our favorites after the jump.
