The trailer for Love Ranch , a new drama from Oscar-winning filmmaker Taylor Hackford, reminds us of a weird combination of Showgirls, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, and Norma Rae — which might sound odd, but it works. The film stars Dame Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci, and is based on the true story of a married couple who opened the first legal brothel in Nevada back in the ’70s. Gina Gershon plays one of the prostitutes. Shocker. From what we can tell, Pesci likes to have a little fun on the side with the ladies, but flips out when Mirren strikes up a relationship with a much younger heavy weight boxer who enters the picture.
According to The Guardian, Love Ranch has been sitting unreleased for two years “thanks to various sticky financial issues,” but has now found a distributor, and is scheduled to hit theaters on June 30th in limited release. Do you plan on checking it out?
